Rachmaninoff
Prepare to experience a mix of passion and nostalgia with Rachmaninoff’s Symphony No. 2. This symphony flows with a romantic grandeur and intensity. Its melody will be familiar as the basis for 1970s heartthrob Eric Carmen’s piece “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again.”

PROGRAM
RACHMANINOFF: Symphony No.2 in E minor
What’s something interesting about this concert?
Symphony No. 2 (written between 1906 and 1907) marked a comeback for Rachmaninoff after the critical failure of his Symphony No. 1 in 1897, which led to a period of self-doubt and depression.
A classically trained musician, Eric Carmen based the verses of his hit “All by Myself” on the second movement of Rachmaninoff’s Piano Concerto No 2 in C minor; he also drew heavily on the same composer’s Symphony No. 2 for his follow-up single, the equally emotive “Never Gonna Fall in Love Again.”
