Position Summary: The Mechanical Design Engineer will be responsible for the design of our client ‘s ground water monitoring instruments and related products. The ideal candidate will have experience utilizing design for manufacturing principles to create products that align with customer requirements while being cognizant of cost targets and industry standards. The applicant must be a self-starter, comfortable working independently, and be collaborative with all facets of the organization. The position is based out of our client ‘s office in Burnaby, BC. Key Responsibilities: Utilize SolidWorks to design mechanical components utilizing diverse manufacturing methods including but not limited to injection molding, CNC, lathe, press, and 3D printing; Perform analysis of tolerances, stress/strain, and statics; Produce all required engineering and manufacturing documentation and assist with preparing specification sheets, brochures, and manuals for assigned projects; Work closely with sales and marketing to establish comprehensive product and design specifications that align with customer and industry requirements; Proactively involve downstream operations such as manufacturing assemblers, quality inspectors, and service and support staff during the design phase; Ensure the manufacturability of designed components and systems by participating in alpha and subsequent product builds with manufacturing personnel; Redesign mechanical components to reduce material costs and employ additive manufacturing techniques where appropriate; Identify and source COTS components and suppliers when needed; Assist production in accelerating new products and identify/resolve any quality issues; Support sales with technical assistance and design for approved special products; Perform such other duties as may be requested or required. Experience, Qualifications & Skills: Mechanical Engineering Degree required; 7 to 10 years of proven industry experience in machinery design; In-depth knowledge of SolidWorks and SolidWorks PDM; Experience running Finite Element Analysis (FEA) using SolidWorks or equivalent package is preferred; 5 years of hands-on experience in Production and Manufacturing; Broad understanding of electronic/electrical/mechanical system components; Ability to manage multiple projects at one time and adhere to strict deadlines; Must be able to work independently and within a small team environment; Strong team player willing to support all areas of the business as required; Ability to problem solve and communicate effectively and collaboratively with all levels of the organization.
