Role DescriptionThe Staff Accountant will play a key role in our accounting department, contributing to the accurate and efficient management of our financial operations. Key Responsibilities:As the Staff Accountant, your role will include: Accounting Operations: Perform day-to-day accounting operations, including accounts payable, accounts receivable, and general ledger activities. Process journal entries, month-end and year-end closing processes, bank reconciliations, and other accounting transactions. Assist in the preparation of financial statements, including balance sheets, income statements, and cash flow statements. Support the budgeting and forecasting process by providing financial data and analysis as needed. Assist in the preparation of tax returns and compliance with accounting standards, regulations, and internal controls. Collaborate with other members of the accounting team to streamline processes and improve efficiency. Stay informed about changes in accounting regulations and standards and ensure compliance with relevant laws and guidelines. Assist with special projects and provide ad hoc support to management as required. Conduct financial analysis to support decision-making and strategic planning initiatives. Analyze trends, variances, and key performance indicators to identify opportunities for improvement and risk mitigation. Provide insights and recommendations to management based on financial analysis and interpretation. Budgeting and Forecasting: Assist in the development of annual operating budgets and long-term financial forecasts. Monitor actual financial performance against budgeted and forecasted targets. Collaborate with senior management to develop budget assumptions and projections. Prepare and analyze monthly, quarterly, and annual financial statements in accordance with GAAP and other relevant standards. Assist in the preparation of financial reports for internal and external stakeholders, including management reports, variance analysis, and budget-to-actual comparisons. Ensure the accuracy and integrity of financial data and reports through thorough review and reconciliation processes. Audit and Tax Compliance: Coordinate and support the annual external audit process, including the preparation of audit schedules and responses to auditor inquiries. Assist in the preparation of corporate tax returns and compliance with tax regulations and reporting requirements. Medical Billing: Process medical billing claims accurately and efficiently in compliance with relevant regulations and guidelines. Verify patient insurance coverage and eligibility for billing. Prepare and submit electronic and paper claims to insurance companies. Follow up on unpaid or denied claims and resolve billing discrepancies. Maintain patient billing records and ensure confidentiality of sensitive information. Collaborate with healthcare providers and insurance companies to resolve billing inquiries and disputes. Stay updated on changes in medical billing codes, regulations, and reimbursement policies. Process Improvement: Identify opportunities to streamline accounting processes and enhance efficiency. Implement best practices and internal controls to mitigate risks and improve financial operations. Skills and AbilitiesStrong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to build rapport and influence stakeholders at all levels of the organization. Excellent analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced environment, with a strong commitment to delivering results. Attention to detail and commitment to accuracy. This is a full-time position. Qualifications and ExperienceBachelors degree in Accounting, Finance, or related field. Professional Accountant designation is preferred. 5-10 years of progressive experience in accounting or finance roles, with a focus on financial reporting and analysis. Strong understanding of financial accounting principles. Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel. Knowledge of medical billing including familiarity with billing codes and procedures preferred. Experience with ClearDent software is an asset.
