Position Summary: The Early Childhood Educator (ECE) will partake as a team member in a diverse, warm and stimulating childcare environment. The ECE will; plan activities based on the observations of the children’s interest and skills supported by “How does Learning Happen? – Ontario’s Pedagogy for the Early Years”, actively build relationships with children and their families while demonstrating dedication to the development and care of newcomer children. The ECE will ensure that the core values and mission are reflected and role-modeled in all aspects of the organization’s objectives, which are to assist and support the entire newcomer family in their settlement and integration into our community. Responsibilities: Create a welcoming inclusive environment for children and their families by being responsive to their diverse cultural heritage, values and individual experience Ensure Emergent curriculum as reflected in “How Does Learning Happen” is an integral part of the daily programming including; observations, children’s learning stories, documentation panels, self-reflection etc. Support children in self-regulation to ensure a harmonious play atmosphere and environment Flexible to work with various age groups; 3 months to 12 years of age Work cooperatively and effectively with other team members to ensure high quality programming for newcomers families Maintain health and safety standards to ensure well-being of all children Assume equal share of the housekeeping and snack preparation Communicate in a professional manner with all staff, community partners and clients Maintain competences through professional development activities Mentor ECE students on placements Qualifications and Skills: ECE Diploma or undergraduate degree in Early Childhood Education Current registered member of the College of Early Childhood Educators and in good standing Strong knowledge of Child Care Early Years Act (CCEYA) Firm knowledge and practice of Emergent curriculum as reflected in “How Does Learning Happen” Knowledge of immigrant/newcomer issues specifically related to young children and families Excellent oral and written communication skills, proficient in Arabic, French or another language an asset Available to work flexible hours including evenings and Saturdays as scheduled Excellent knowledge of Microsoft Word, Excel and related computer programs Current Police Vulnerable Sector Check (PVSC) Current CPR Level C and First Aid Certification Current Health Assessment Valid Driver’s license and access to a vehicle is an asset Job Types: Full-time, Part-time, Contract Schedule: 4 hour shift 8 hour shift Day shift Evening shift Work Location: One location
