Sandwich Visionaries Outreach Facilitator Art Windsor-Essex Position Title: Sandwich Visionaries Outreach Facilitator Reporting to: Head of Programs and Projects Type of Employment: Contract full-time (8 months) August-March Work hours: 35hrs Contract: $30 per hour Established in 1943, AWE is the largest public art gallery in Southwestern Ontario and has grown with incredible support from the Windsor-Essex community. For over 75 years, AWE has experienced great change – in leadership, our collection and our address. With every adaptation, we keep getting better at what we do: inspiring growth through the power of art. At AWE, we share historical Canadian, Indigenous and contemporary art with the Windsor-Essex community in inventive and creative ways. Through our activities, we spark creativity and conversations, and educate and engage. With 15,000 square feet of exhibition space, new takes on our permanent collection of nearly 4,000 artworks, and through unexpected partnerships, AWE is the creative heart of Windsor-Essex. We are currently looking to onboard a motivated and passionate cultural worker for the development and execution of programming for children and youth in a library, school and community space setting. We are looking for someone who has interest in Community Building, Civic Engagement and Digital Technologies. Priority will be given to Indigenous and equity-deserving applicants. Nature and Scope: Under the supervision of the Head of Programs and Projects and working closely with cultural workers, staff, and volunteers, this position focuses on supporting AWE’s after school and weekend programs for youth and families in Sandwich. Sandwich Visionaries Outreach Facilitator is responsible for delivering offsite programming in the Sandwich Town neighborhood, including coordinating programming for youth, supporting digital outreach programs, partnerships with stakeholders and researching and collecting qualitative and quantitative data related to the education programs. Program description: Sandwich Visionaries is an arts-based program to engage school-aged children in Sandwich Town and West Windsor. This program will give participants the opportunity to learn about local history and culture through creative activities led by an artist-facilitator. The program will feature a 24-week artist-led program offered through community spaces and local schools with additional workshops at community events to attract participation from a wider, multi-generational audience. Sandwich Visionaries will engage youth in learning about civic engagement, inspiring youth to shape the community. Key responsibilities include Supports the development of content on visual literacy specific to youth and culturally diverse audiences and incorporates Ministry of Education curriculum content; Researches and develops interpretative materials in collaboration with other public program staff and stakeholders; Organizes all aspects of programs, content preparation; Facilitates workshops and hosting guest speakers, working collaboratively with all staff and stakeholders; Plans and coordinates supply and materials for programs; Must be available in the evening on Mondays, Wednesday and Saturday during the day. Other workdays are flexible; Communicates with stakeholders and maintains communications between stakeholders and staff; Performs other duties as assigned. Skills & Requirements Post-secondary degree or equivalent experience in Education, Communications/Film, Visual Arts and/or Visual Arts Education, or Theater; Experience working in an education/and or cultural environment; Knowledge of visual and media arts and the ability to research, prepare, and present educational information that is accessible to a range of ages and levels of experience; Strong written and oral communication and administrative skills; Demonstrated competencies in the following: Digital Photography, Digital Illustration (Krita), Video Production, Sound editing, Printing, Website management (adding/editing content), Graphic Design, projection, public and community engaged art projects and activities; Interest in civic engagement and community building; Demonstrated ability to work with partners.
