Non-Union, Windsor Part-Time Posting expiry date: Monday, July 22 at 4:30pm Reporting to the Manager(s) of the Oral Health Department, the Dentist works as part of a multi-disciplinary team to provide ongoing clinical dental care to clients eligible for the Healthy Smiles Ontario (HSO) and the Ontario Seniors Dental Care Program (OSDCP) in the WECHU dental clinic, in accordance with the Oral Health Protocol, (2018) or as current. W eekday hours, occasional weekends and evening hours, occasional on-call hours. Position Responsibilities This list of responsibilities is representative of the scope of this position, however not exhaustive or descriptive of any one position within this class and may be modified as program needs change. Obtains complete medical history. Verifies and applies medical history prior to treatment by consulting with family members and physicians when necessary. Refers clients for medical testing if warranted. Performs oral examinations, formulates treatment plans, informs clients and families of treatment plans and obtains consent for treatment. Provides a broad range of basic dental treatment, such as dental restorations, extractions, oral hygiene procedures, root canal treatment on selected teeth. Performs emergency dental procedures. Prescribes appropriate medications and administers local anaesthetic. Monitor and performs universal precaution procedures for infection control (IPAC) in the dental office to ensure patient safety following IPAC best practices. Operates dental x-ray machines, radiographic processor and interprets radiographs. Ensures proper x-ray quality assurance and safety, and the proper disposal of biohazard and/or environmental waste. Receives referrals from private dental and medical providers, and makes referrals to other appropriate dental practices and specialists. Builds referral pathways with other dental and medical providers. Performs the duties of a team leader in a clinical setting, which includes ensuring effective teamwork and efficient flow of clients. Works with oral health team to provide clients with access to social/health/community resources, and collaborates with the partner agencies as appropriate. Position Qualifications Education, training, & experience Doctor of Dental Surgery Degree from a university recognized by the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario and eligible to practice clinical dentistry in Ontario. Current member in good standing with the Royal College of Dental Surgeons of Ontario Extensive experience working in a dental office, community health facility and/or public health setting. Demonstrated ability to work independently and interdependently in a multi-disciplinary team environment, in which the skills and responsibilities of each team member are recognized and respected. Knowledge of the eligibility requirements for publicly funded dental programs. Demonstrated understanding of the diverse and complex health and social needs of the community members, particularly those experiencing social inequity and discrimination. Ability to provide service excellence and commitment to the coalition, and work effectively with various and diverse stakeholders. Strong interpersonal, written and verbal communication skills. Fluency in Arabic or Low-German is an asset. Previous experience working with children and/or senior population an asset. Familiarity with government legislation, such as occupational health and safety, and privacy legislation. Available to work in various locations and under flexible hours. Other Requirements: Immunizations and TB screening as per WECHU policies. Current BLS (CPR Level HCP) certification as a minimum. Satisfactory vulnerable sector police clearance. Ability to work weekend and evenings as required by the program. A valid Ontario driver’s licence, access to a reliable motor vehicle during working hours and 2 million dollars in liability insurance. Must provide and maintain professional liability insurance coverage with a minimum amount of 2 million per occurrence and 5 million in aggregate. Must provide and maintain commercial liability insurance coverage in respect of any one accident for a minimum of 2 million dollars, naming the health unit as an addition insured .
