Security Guard – Job Description Reports to: Security Team Lead, Director of Programs & Services Hours: Flexible to work all shifts including: days, afternoons, nights, weekends holidays. Divisions Served: Organization wide. Education and Certification: REQUIRED—Valid Ontario Security Guard License , First Aid/CPR Mental Health First Aid/ Certification, High school diploma, Require a Valid Driver's License with clean Driver's Abstract Experience Required: Two to three (2—3) years customer service experience. Experience working in the not-for-profit sector would be considered an asset Experience working with homelessness, individuals experiencing mental health and/or addiction issues would also be an asset. Starting Full-Time Wage: $16.85 per hour. Skills & Knowledge: This position requires low level physical exertion. Occasional lifting of up to ten (10) pounds (4.54 kg). Occasional requirement to be outside in cold temperatures. Low intensity of sensory effort is required. Non -judgmental, positive, friendly, epithetic, fair, and honest Keen observation skills Above average verbal de-escalation skills with excellent verbal and written English communication. Ability to work independently and as part of a team. Working knowledge of the causes of homelessness in the region. Excellent oral and written English communication skills. Working knowledge of Naloxone and its function to reverse opioid toxicity. Ability to think critically to resolve issues and solve problems. Outstanding ability to develop and build relationships and influence others. Duties & Responsibilities: Watch for and report irregularities by completing investigations and incident reports. Effectively de-escalate potentially violent situations. Contact emergency responders such as police, fire, and ambulance personnel as required. Utilize 2-way radio and computer applications for communicating site activities. Sustain effective relationships with key stakeholders and provide specialized security service by following the Downtown Mission 's rules and regulations. Liaise with community partners such as WPS and EMS. Exercise Non-violent Crisis Intervention Use of Force, and First Aid Mental Health. Adhere to Health & Safety standards and promote safety as everyone’s responsibility.
