Social Support Worker – Job Description Reports to: Social Work Supervisor, Director of Social Services Hours: Casual position with flexibility Location: Downtown Mission of Windsor Job Overview: As a Social Worker at the Downtown Mission of Windsor, you will play a crucial role in providing support and advocacy for individuals in need within the community. You will work closely with clients to address their social and emotional needs, facilitate access to resources, and promote overall well-being. Guests are tended to in a timely fashion with compassion, dignity, and understanding Apply Health and Safety standards, regulations, policies, and procedures, and promote health and safety as everyone’s responsibility Cooperate with coworkers and management by actively listening, being genuine, valuing other points of view, respecting the diversity of the team, and responding to needs Convey information and ideas clearly through a variety of mediums to individuals or groups in a manner that engages the audience and helps them understand and retain the message Responsibilities: Provide aid to guests to deal with the challenges in their everyday lives which includes assisting people in crisis situations and following up with them to make sure that their situation has improved. Many guests present with multiple mental health and/or addiction issues. Skills: – CPR/First Aid, Non-Violent Crisis Intervention, HIFIS, mental health first aid – Working knowledge of the causes of homelessness in the region – Knowledge of concurrent mental health disorders, treatment and resources including approaches to recovery – Working knowledge of Naloxone and its function to reverse opioid toxicity – Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to build rapport and establish trust with diverse populations – Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, for effective client interactions and documentation – Empathy, compassion, and a non-judgmental approach towards clients facing challenging circumstances – Ability to work independently as well as part of a multidisciplinary team – Proficiency in crisis intervention techniques and conflict resolution strategies – Knowledge of community resources and social service programs to assist clients effectively Requirements: – Bachelor's or Master's degree in Social Work or related field – Experience in social work or related field is preferred – Familiarity with trauma-informed care principles is an asset Join our team at the Downtown Mission of Windsor where you can make a meaningful impact on the lives of those in need while working in a supportive and collaborative environment dedicated to serving the community.
